We started out from Nashville, Tennessee, and made it to the middle of Missouri. We decided to 'boondock' everywhere, rather than pay for a campsite given that we had no need for water or electrical hookups. We found most of our sites by using apps like iOverlander, which shows legal spots for dispersed or wild camping. We managed to find a great spot wherever we went.
This first was at a fishing access point next to a river, which was right beside a cornfield. Hazel enjoyed chasing corncobs.
The next day we drove from Missouri to eastern South Dakota and camped on the banks or (ironically) the Missouri river.
The next day we headed to western South Dakota, where we went to Badlands National Park.
Hazel is a great travel dog, she loves car rides and mostly sleeps, although her ears enter aerodynamic mode when the windows are down.
We then went to Wind Cave National Park, where the main attraction is a cave. However, the elevators were undergoing repair, so there was no access to the cave for another month or so. We same some bison on the prairie, but otherwise, it was not very exciting.
We stayed the night just west of Wind Cave NP.
The next day we made it to Billings, Montana, where we let Hazel swim in the Yellowstone river. We stayed on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land about 30 minutes north of Billings for three days.
We used Starlink for our internet, picture below, which worked really well.
We made our way north to Glacier National Park, and went to the Two Medicine area (which is south & east of the park). We took a one hundred year old boat, the Sinopah, across the lake. We then hiked 5 miles to upper Two Medicine Lake.
At that point, we decided to turn south for Arizona rather than continuing on to Alaska. The wildfires were really bad in Montana and in British Columbia, causing road closures and evacuations of towns on our way. We planned to drive BB down to my parent's house in Prescott, then fly to Alaska.
The views on the way through southern Montana, Idaho and Utah were beautiful! We stayed overnight just south of Salt Lake City on BLM land. We stopped in Page, Arizona to swim in the Colorado river and stayed overnight in a forest in Flagstaff, Arizona, before making it to Prescott.
Here is a compilation from all my GoPro videos- I got it for this trip and it has been really fun to create them.
