Alaska part V: Lake Clark

Our last part of the trip was at Lake Clark National Park. This is one of the parks in Alaska that you cannot drive to (the others being Glacier Bay, Katmai, Kobuk Valley, and Gates of the Arctic).

After we dropped off the truck camper, we took a flight from Anchorage into Port Alsworth, a small town within Lake Clark National Park. I got to sit next to the pilot and have a birds eye view! It was about a 45 minute flight and we saw two moose on the way in.

After landing in Port Alsworth, we went to 'The Lodge', one of Port Alsworth's oldest accommodations. After living in a truck camper for 9 days, it was heaven. We had home cooked meals every morning and night, and a sack lunch for the day. We got in on a Friday evening, and left on Sunday morning, so we only had one full day. We took advantage by doing all of the hiking trails in the region, for a total of 15 miles. We hiked Mounta Tanalian, which was strenuous but very beautiful. There was still some cloud cover in the area, so we didn't get a full view of the lake, but it was still very scenic. Then we hiked down to Tanalian Falls, a roaring waterfall along the trail. We returned to the Lodge in time for dinner and an epic sunset.

We flew back to Anchorage on Sunday morning, passing back through the scenic Lake Clark Pass. We took it easy in Anchorage and headed back to the lower 48 the next day.

It was an absolutely epic trip! We squeezed so much into two and a half weeks. We could have easily spent a week in each place we stopped, but we are so glad we got a glimpse of how much Alaska has to offer. We cannot wait to come back!

If you didn't catch the audio on the last clip- it was William saying "Yep, just as I suspected, another peak. There will probably be another one right after that."

He was not pleased about several false summits on our Mount Tanalian hike!
